Natural Bath Bombs DIY

{image}

Bath Bombs also known as Bath Fizzies have been on my list to make for the store but for whatever reason it keeps getting pushed aside so for now here is a fun recipe for you to experiment with on your own.  It makes a great project to do with the kids and with Christmas right around the corner these make great gifts too!

1 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Citric Acid
1/2 cup Epsom Salt
2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
5 teaspoons Green Tea, Rose Hydrosol or liquid of choice
essential oils (optional)

Combine all dry ingredients. Now work the coconut oil into the dry ingredients.
Slowly stir the green tea or liquid of choice into the dry ingredients and coconut oil.
If using essential oils add now (approximately 20 drops).

Now mold into desired shapes. Melon ballers can make a great mold, candy or soap molds, ice cube trays or mini baking molds.
If you want to take it a step further and use dried flowers then press them onto the outside of  bath bombs while molding.

Allow to dry for a minimum of 4 hours, or overnight for best results. Remove from mold and store in an airtight container.

Some suggested combos:
rose hydrosol, geranium essential oil & rose petals
aloe vera juice, eucalyptus essential oil & peppermint leaves
green tea, bergamot essential oil & green tea leaves
black tea, sweet orange essential oil & cinnamon powder
chamomile tea, lavender essential oil & calendula petals

So many possibilities! Get creative and have fun!

This was a fun post for me because makeup is why I got into the skincare industry to begin with.  After being lost as a freshman in college (I'm sure you can all relate) I met a professional makeup artist and became intrigued by her career.  I had always been the one to do my friends makeup in High School but never thought about the possibility of it being my career until that fateful afternoon.  So at 19 years old I packed up,  moved back home and enrolled in a local aesthetics school.  After graduating I worked as both a makeup artist and an aesthetician.  I loved every minute of it!  But as the years went by I became more involved in aesthetics then makeup.  It's something that I still do from time to time and I always jump on the chance to get one my girlfriends all dolled up for an event but my career has slowly evolved.
I love how the makeup industry has evolved too.  There are so many more options for natural makeup then there were when I first got started.  People are becoming more informed and creating a demand that many great natural and ethical companies are happy to fill! You can literally find a natural replacement for every makeup product you use now.  And it's not like you have to settle for a mediocre product.  These are far superior to the lead based chemical laden products you've been using.  It nourishes your skin and supports holistic health and well being.  You'll see your skin glow and from my experience your eyelashes even start to look healthier and fuller!

French Green Clay

I'm choosing to spotlight our French Green Clay Mask today to give you all a better understanding of what it is and why it is so amazing for your skin.  A common theme that you will see in our products is simplicity and really getting back to the basics. I don't like to overwhelm you with a long list of ingredients and if I believe that one ingredient is good enough to stand alone then that is what the finished product will be.
This is true for French Green Clay also known as Illite Clay or Sea Clay. It is naturally sourced from bedrock quarries in France and then sun dried. It has been used for thousands of years in cosmetic preparations and to even aid in internal detoxification.  It has high concentrations of plant material and volcanic matter that give it a rich mineral content that can be healing, analgesic and anti-inflammatory.
Here are some of the ways your skin can  benefit by adding french green clay into your routine...
  • increase circulation
  • oxygenate cells
  • gently exfoliate and promote cellular turnover
  • absorb impurities and remove toxins
  • tone and strengthen connective tissues
  • tighten pores
  • dry up blemishes
  • reduce the reoccurrence of breakouts
  • reduce irritation from bug bite

It is wonderful just by itself mixed with water for a tightening mask or mixed with honey or yogurt to really activate the moisturizing effect as well.  It is what I go to on a weekly basis to help my oily skin try to survive these hot and humid summers. The possibilities are endless when mixing masks with green clay and it can be a lot of fun coming up with a recipe that works for you.  I've used a bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and honey with it when working to clear up a reaction to medication.  For best results take time to use the mask once or twice weekly.  Sometimes it can just be slowing down and creating the ritual of doing something for yourself that is the most beneficial.

how it all began...

It's hard to believe everything that has happened in less then a month, don't get me wrong it's been building for some time but the actual execution of those dreams has been about 3 weeks.  In 5 days I move into my store and begin to turn it into the imaginary store that I've had tucked away in my head.  Let me back up...May 1st marked my three year anniversary with my husband and we decided to get away to celebrate.  Because his job entails a lot of time spent driving we decided to stay in town and rent a sweet little farmhouse in one of my favorite places in the world, Leiper's Fork.
I always knew that if I were to open a business it would be there.  Whenever I came out I'd park next to the building I had my eye on but nothing was ever vacant and the timing never seemed right anyways.  During our getaway and a trip into the village I once again longingly looked over at the building not expecting to see any rooms empty but lo and behold there was a vacancy. I tucked the dream away once again and finished our vacation.  The day after getting home I couldn't shake the image of those empty windows and my ideas of how I'd fill them.  So my mother-in-law and I loaded up and drove back out.  We jotted down the number from the for rent sign and drove back home.  I waited a couple hours before I called, building my courage because I knew that phone call could be life changing.  I called and a sweet lady answered the phone and told me she already had someone for the space but she had another space coming available with a kitchen and that she was glad I called because she was literally on her way home to start calling a list of people who left their names and numbers if anything should open up.  She loved my idea for the space and said she wanted me for it so she wouldn't make any calls.  I asked if I could drive out to see the space with the kitchen first so the next morning I drive back out.

Running on pure nerves and adrenaline I prayed the whole way there.  I asked for confirmation and the Spirit to speak to me if this is within His will.  I arrive and meet with the current tenant, chat for a while, I take some pictures and marvel at how perfect the space is for my needs.  I can formulate products in the kitchen, there is a separate retail space where I can sell my products and meet with customers, an office or treatment room I could eventually use or lease out and a door out to a big beautiful back yard I can use for outdoor yoga.  Every dream I had fits perfectly into this 700 sq ft space.  I thank the tenant and step out the door almost bumping into a woman who was in town for a conference and decided to take a side trip out here. We talk for a little bit, she asks if there are any other good shops around and I tell her that next time she's in town that I may be here and to stop by and see me. She looks at me and says I feel led to pray for you, do you mind?  She then puts her arms around me and asks for the Spirit to fill me with confirmation and direction and to bless me, my family and this business....a stranger on the front steps of my new store speaking life into me and answering the prayer I had been praying the whole way there almost word for word.  I leave trembling, with tears in my eyes and drive home.  I pull over in a church parking lot and weep with joy and thankfulness for the confirmation I received.  And so the journey begins.
